Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take Medicaid or Medicare?
Windhorse operates on a private pay basis only and is not a provider with any private or public insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare.  Due to state regulations, we cannot serve Medicaid clients even if they plan to pay privately.

Age of Clients
We primarily work with clients ages 18 and up.  Most of our clients are between the ages of 20 and 40 years old.

Gender of Clients
A recent analysis of our clientele shows: 51% identify as male, 44% as female, 3% non-binary, and 2% transgender.

Length of Stay
The length of treatment varies with each client.  Due to our relational model, we typically ask clients to make a minimum six-month commitment, with the average stay being approximately one to three years.  Some clients continue with us for even longer with varying levels of support.

Housing
Clients often move to Boulder needing housing and we can provide a list of apartments we recommend. The client and/or their family are responsible for securing the apartment and signing the lease. We’ve found that the lease length can often be negotiated.

Some new clients view the first 60 days with Windhorse as an assessment period and choose to get a nearby short-term furnished rental during that time. Team leaders can also help to find housing and are experienced in setting up new living arrangements, including finding furniture.

Do you work with addictions?
We do work with clients who have a history of substance abuse and are interested in maintaining sobriety.  However, our main focus of treatment is working with mental health challenges rather than active addictions.  WCS is connected to local treatment programs and can coordinate care to support clients’ acute or ongoing sobriety goals and intentions.

Outcomes
Clients come to us with different aspirations, dreams, and challenges. Recovery goals are established with the help of the team at the beginning of treatment and reviewed regularly.  What does success mean?  It could mean fewer hospitalizations, going back to college, gaining employment, or learning the skills to live independently.  We work closely with the client in the team environment to encourage each unique recovery process.
